26th March Newsletter

New Website

Pete has done a great job with the new website and you can take a look at it now at

https://www.oxtedcc.org/

You will notice that the photo’s are male heavy. We did not get much response for our requests for photos so had to go with what we had but we will be looking to address this over the next few weeks. If you do get an opportunity to take any good group photos, preferably action one’s then please let us have them.

New Ride Groups

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter we will be renaming our groups. Basically the T1.5 will become T2 and all subsequent groups will move up one. You can see the group descriptions on the website. We have decided to start with the new groups this weekend. Today I have reviewed everyone’s Spond access and if you previously had T2 as one of your groups you will now also have T3. If you have any problems please let me know.

We are once again fortunate to secure a 2 hour BC coached session at Lee Valley, Stratford for Oxted Cycling Club members. This session is fully inclusive for all levels. Coached Session : 4pm to 6pm

There are 16 places available and the reservations will be handled as below.

  • Please express your serious interest by accepting on Spond by 24th April latest

  • If we have more than 16 interested, I will ask members who rode the track in January if they would like to volunteer to step down to kindly release a slot.

Ride Reports

Rob’s T1.5 - Saturday 21st March

5 of us took the T1.5 option to follow the T2 route to Brockham Reading Room. It was chillier than it looked but Casey, Lisa, Andrew Thornley, Tony and myself enjoyed the clear blue skies and sunshine. This was slightly marred near Leigh, when an impatient, abusive motorist took exception to cyclists being on the road and, then again by a horse rider, who dared to ride her steed on our quiet country lanes. After some discussion, this was put to one side as we enjoyed the rest of our ride. Coffee at Brockham was also eventful when one of our group locked their bike, and then realised they hadn't brought the key to the padlock with them! Long story short, eventually, a borrowed pair of wire cutters saved the day.
45 miles (72.5 km), 2000 ft (600 m) climbing at 13 mph (21 kph)
Casey seemed very happy with that!

Norman’s T1 - Richard, six of us turned out on a T1 ride to Falconhurst this morning lead by Linda. We only travelled a mile and a half when our poor Linda had a puncture which we could not repair. Luckily, Linda was only a short walk from her home but then we had a battery failure for gear change😞Michaela and Cathy were close to Chiddingstone and went to  Tulip Tree Cafe while Steve Dave and I went on to Falconhurst Cafe. After our stop, we cycled back via Cowden and Dormandsland.

Have a good weekend,

Richard
